A few little tips for keeping your carpet clean
By Autumn Sibo,
... because we want your carpet to stay clean longer!
The first step towards keeping your carpet clean is never to buy any store-bought spot cleaners. Most store-bought spot cleaners are detergents and will leave a soapy residue on your carpet. You won't feel it, but you will start seeing dark spots everywhere it was used. If you listen to us, there should be no reason ever to have reoccurring spots on your carpet. For example, pour a little in your hand and see the soap. You'll understand what we mean.
If you have previously spot-cleaned with an over-the-counter product, our cleaning will look great when our certified cleaning technicians leave your home, but some of that invisible residue may still be there. Just think when washing your dishes how much rinse water it takes to rinse off a plate. Remember, a plate is not even a porous surface. Can you imagine how much water it would take to rinse the residue out of your porous carpet fibers? It may take another cleaning or so to extract all the residual cleaner.
Most carpet cleaners use sticky detergents!
That's right – most of the cleaners we know still use the detergents that will leave a sticky residue on your carpet. Did you have another company clean your carpet, and afterward, it seems to get dirty faster? It is likely they used detergents. We'll do everything we can to get the soapy residue out and bring your carpet back to like-new condition.
Our spotting recommendations!
When there's a stain on your carpet, you first must ask yourself where the stain came from. Was it from a natural source? For example, coffee comes from a coffee bean – a natural source. Wine, blood, urine, and vomit are all-natural substances. Something like grease isn't. Figuring out the source of the stain will tell you what you need to do.
Spots from a natural source
You'll want to mix three ounces of peroxide with one ounce of clear ammonia in a spray bottle. Do NOT add water! Spray this mixture on the spot and cover it with a coffee saucer or a dinner plate. Leave it alone and let it sit for 24 hours, and the spot should be gone. If it's still visible, give it another treatment by repeating the process.
Spots from an unnatural source
Creative Carpet & Flooring recommends our very own soap-free spotter that we have available for purchase at any of our showrooms. Blot with a cotton towel first if the spot is still wet. If the spot is dry, spray on our soap-free spotter. Using your finger, agitate gently and wait about a minute or two. Blot it with a cotton towel and the spot should absorb into the towel.
