Keeping Carpet Clean
By Cody Bouquet,
Carpeting is a major investment in your home. Of course, you want it to last as long as possible. For that to happen, you need to keep your carpet clean. Here are a few ways to keep your carpet clean to help it look new longer and increase its lifespan.
Doormats
Ensure all the entrances to your home have a doormat outside to wipe your shoes and inside for somewhere to take off shoes and place them.
Shoes
Speaking of shoes, everyone should always take their shoes off before they walk through your home. This will avoid dirt and debris from outdoors being tracked onto your carpet. A shoe rack at the entrance is also helpful.
Air filters
Change the air filter in your heating and cooling system at least every three months to help capture indoor pollutants like dust, pollen and pet dander. Your air filters are essentially a vacuum for your air!
Vacuum with a good vacuum
Vacuuming regularly is the most important way to care for your carpet. You should vacuum at least twice a week, going over each spot on your carpet at least eight times. Vacuum in different directions to get out the most dirt and debris. Using a GOOD vacuum is important, too. The Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) has a great resource for certified vacuums.
Treat stains ASAP
The longer spills, food and pet accidents sit, the harder it will be to clean later. This will damage your carpet. So, make sure to clean up messes immediately. Different stains require different clean-up methods. We also have a soap-free spot & stain remover right here in our showroom. You can even get our lifetime refillable bottle, so you never have to worry about running out!
Professional cleaning
Get a deep professional carpet cleaning at least once a year to keep your carpet clean and in the best condition possible. Professional carpet cleaning using the extraction method every 12 to 18 months is also necessary to maintain the carpet’s warranty. You can schedule a carpet cleaning right on our website here. Avoid renting carpet cleaning machines to do it yourself. They can attract more dirt and cause mold and mildew to grow.
Lengthen the life of your carpet with regular maintenance. Feel free to contact any of our Flooring Consultants if you have any questions or concerns on maintaining your carpet to keep it looking as good as new and last as long as possible.
